FAQ’s 1. What is LifeCare Family Services/Counseling?
We are a faith-based Community Mental Health Center that offers individual or family therapy, child and adult psychiatric care and counseling, therapeutic case management, and In Home Child and Family Services such as mentoring, life skills, etc...
2. What kind of clinicians do you have on staff?
There are many kinds of counselors, clinicians, and specialties to choose from at LifeCare. We have Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and Licensed Professional Counselors. The definitions for these clinicians are listed below.
Psychiatrists are licensed medical doctors (MDs) who have had additional training in mind-body interaction. Psychiatrists and other physicians can legally prescribe medication for "mental health" problems. Licensed pharmacists can advise on medications, fill prescriptions, and refer to psychiatrists and other health care providers. Psychiatrists usually work with individual adults or children.
Psychologists are trained in individual and group behavior, but usually not in medicine. Licensed clinical psychologists provide therapy and counseling to individual adults and/or kids or groups. Typical psychologists are skilled in using a variety of non-medical tests ("instruments") to help diagnose a person's personality and problems. Like psychiatrists, they often specialize in one or more problem-types. Most psychologists have Master's and Ph.D. degrees. The latter may be called "doctor."
Social Workers usually have less training in instruments, no medical training (unless they work in a hospital), and more training in providing a range of community-networked services to individuals, couples, children, and their families. Licensed psychiatric and clinical social workers provide individual, marital, and family counseling and therapy in public and private agencies; hospital, school, and welfare departments; and private practices. They have Masters (MSW) or Ph.D. level (DSW) degrees, and usually need a state license to practice (LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker).
Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) and Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) provide therapy and counseling like clinical social workers. MFTs focus more on healing relationship problems than other (generic) therapists. LPCs are more general. They both are licensed by state organizations like the other service providers.
3. What does faith-based mean?
While we serve people of all faiths, all of our counselors have an understanding to meet an individual right where they are and to show the love of Christ to those we come in contact with. We explore with individuals their personal faith in God, or lack there of, and walk with them through their personal beliefs that might be impacting their life either positively or negatively. The Apostles’ Creed states our common faith; supporting our belief as a staff that there is a place for agreement and this keeps us focused on what we commonly believe together, and not on what separates us.
4. What if I’m not a spiritual person?
LifeCare respects a person’s beliefs, including those who espouse no religion. Our clinicians and staff do not attempt to manipulate anyone to our particular set of beliefs but rather desire to meet individuals where they are and show them the unconditional love and grace we have received as a result of our faith.
5.Is your agency affiliated with any church denomination?
No, we are non-denominational and do not affiliate ourselves with any particular denomination, however, we do have a network of churches that we are affiliated with that are committed to joining us in helping and caring for people as we do.
6.What kind of training do the counselors, therapist, psychologist nd medical staff have?
All LifeCare clinicians have master’s degrees in psychology, social work, or counseling and some are licensed for individual practice and are on panels to accept private insurance.
